How to Get Multiple Flushes
How to Get Multiple Flushes
After your first harvest, your substrate can often produce additional flushes. Proper handling between flushes helps maintain yield and health of the block.
What Happens After First Flush
- The substrate has used a lot of its available moisture and nutrients
- Growth will pause briefly before the next flush begins
- Conditions need to be reset slightly to encourage more growth
How to Prepare for the Next Flush
-
Clean up the harvest area
Remove any leftover mushroom material to prevent rot. -
Restore moisture
If the substrate looks dry, lightly mist the inside of the bag. -
Reset the bag
For CVG, you can close or reduce the opening after harvest.
For Masters Mix, keep the top folded and maintain side fruiting. -
Return to stable conditions
Keep temperature and environment consistent.
When to Expect the Next Flush
- Usually within 7–14 days depending on species and conditions
- Growth may appear in the same area or a new spot
Important Notes
- Each flush will typically be smaller than the last
- Moisture is the main limiting factor after the first flush
- Avoid over-misting—too much water can cause issues
- Keep airflow and humidity balanced
Common Mistakes
- Letting the block dry out completely
- Overwatering after harvest
- Not cleaning up leftover material
- Changing conditions too much
- Expecting the same yield as the first flush
